Sheet metal parts are known for their durability, which makes them great for end use applications (e.g. chassis). Parts used for low volume prototypes, and high volume production runs are most cost-effective due to large initial setup and material costs.
A lightweight alternative to steel, aluminium is a naturally non-reactive metal that will not corrode in the presence of air or water.
Aluminum can be somewhat vulnerable to corrosion when in contact with concrete , however and there's also a risk of bimetal corrosion.
Both of these problems can be overcome through anodizing or painting.
